3 Transforming Beauty Secrets

1. The Vinegar trick

Tried and tested by my whole family and many of my friends, this one always gets people wrinkling up their noses when I tell them about it. However, it WORKS so well I can tell if my mom has done the vinegar trick as soon as she totters out of her bedroom hair looking bright, healthy, shiny and glossy- you name it.

Rinsing with apple cider vinegar will help balance the pH level of your hair & remove the buildup that can result from the use of these styling products, shampoo & conditioner.

Directions:
-Put 3 tables spoons of white apple cider vinegar into a glass & fill the rest of the glass to the top with water.
-Wash and condition your hair and then after rinsing apply the concoction onto your hair.
-Massage your scalp for 30 sec and then rinse well (so your hair doesn’t end up smelling like vinegar). After blow-drying your hair you should see results.

2. Eye lash queen

I’m a bit lashes obsessed; I take longer putting on mascara than doing my hair every morning. Unless you have Adrianna Lima eyelashes, every girl should own an eyelash curler. It’s the best thing since the olive depip-er.  Use it before you do your mascara as it can pull your lashes out if you use it after.
Also for extra effect: use the end of the mascara wand to put mascara of the TIPS of your lashes. Do this after the first coat of mascara has dried. This works so well! Then ta-da long lashes.

My 3 all time favourite mascaras:

 1. BARGAIN
Essence is a very good inexpensive German make up brand. I’m actually using this ‘Get Big Lashes’ mascara at the moment, it really works amazingly! And it costs like R50 ($7), crazy.

 2. AFFORDABLE
An all time favourite, Maybelline’s best- One by One Volume Express.

 3. SPLURGE
Every girl needs to own one of these in her lifetime, even though its not every day we can buy R400-R500 (approx. $50) mascara.

3. Highlight ‘must’ Areas

A quick make up trick to look bright and glowing in the morning- Dab some light highlighting eye shadow in the corner of each eye by your tear duct, under the arch of your eyebrows towards your hairline and just above your check bone. I use a light goldy white colour from the Body Shop’s shimmer waves. I do it everyday and it really makes a difference (especially if you look tired).

Applying all three beauty secrets…

The pink circles the 3 main areas I highlight- the tear duct, upper cheekbone & under arch of the eyebrow.
And the end result….ta-da!
Let me know your results!

RUN BKK!

Today I leave the amazingly addictive city that I have been living in for the past 4 months and have pretty much fallen in love with. Sure, I am excited to go back home and see my family, friends, dogs and just good old Cape Town, but damn I’m going to miss my life here….

Bangkok scares some, overwhelms others…and for those who pop in for a night or two before setting off on their island trip it may be too chaotic, wild and insane… However, give it a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks…and it will suck you right in. In the most famous words “Bangkok has taken them” (Hangover 2).

Some of the things that stole my heart: the delicious street food (it’s a way of life here and the Thais take the utmost pride in preparing it) especially The Purple People!, of course the weird and wonderful and WIDE variety of smells as you walk down the street, public transport- especially motorbike taxis and their weaving between the tiniest spaces with such precision, food: green curry, panang curry, stir fry and sweet basil, Tom Yum gai, lemon grass and ginger, the fact that you can buy anything and everything your heart desires on good old Pradiphat road, the best street banana and Nutella pancakes, markets, the insane malls, the Magnum cafe, Levels, the odd monk casually strolling down the road, Hong Thong (still not 100% sure what type of alcohol it is), Ladies Night, The Roof on Koh Sahn for the best live entertainment in Bangkok, the heat, our amazing condo block- Lumpini Place, the BTS!, our amazing city view from the 28th floor, Mystics Cafe down the road for the best coffee & cashew nut chicken, the fact that there’s a 7/11 every few meters is crazy- but I will miss it, Firehouse for the best burgers I have yet to experience, working at BED Supperclub and the amazing team there, Siam, even the fact that you have to use charades so often because of the language barrier, living with my amazing roomie and best friend, and most importantly the amazing friends we have made over the past 4 months…..

HIGHLIGHTS:

December– Arriving, Hua Hin beach party for New Years Eve. Setting off lanterns.

January– Visiting a temple in Hua Hin and being blessed by a monk. Getting a job as kindergarten teacher at a good school. Moving to Bangkok. Moving into our new Condo block Lumpini Place. Meeting amazing people, exploring and discovering the city, shopping, nightlife and Thai culture. Our first pay check! Levels, The Roof, The Club and co. on Koh Sahn.

February– Kirst’s 21st crazy celebrations, Above11 sky bar, Sven Vath at BED Supperclub, massages, Jeffrey Campbell purchase, going to the POLO, Bombay Blues, Firehouse, Rambutree, end of year school play

March– End of job as kindergarten teacher, ISLAND HOLIDAY: (Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Krabi, Phi Phi) and our crazy adventures- swimming with black tip reef sharks, riding elephants, getting my first tattoo, the newlyweds, doing the fire limbo, meeting wonderful people along the way, Getting 3 part time jobs (2 as English tutor and one as hostess at BED Supperclub, Soi 11)

April– Starting jobs, making crazy friends including a lady boy, SONGKRAN (Thai New Years and huge water festival)- trip to Chiang Mai, petting tigers, crazy nights out, Asiatique waterfront, seeing Pendulum live at BED!!

All I can say is that we couldn’t have had a better experience in Bangkok if we tried… Ready for the next adventure!

What a novelty, Jeffrey Campbell

0

A few years ago I discovered a Californian shoe designer (I’m a huge shoe feen) called Jeffrey Campbell. I instantly fell in love with his chunky and unique shoe designs, especially the Lita boots. Although many (usually males) think the Litas resemble, as I have heard before, ‘clown boots’ I love their chunkiness and large platform on the soles. When I researched I sadly discovered they don’t sell them in South Africa, so, when I knew I was going to be living in Bangkok I made a pact to myself to buy them. Two months and the same amount I pay for rent later- voilà, I own a pair of nude/stone JC Litas complete with studs (more like spikes) on the back of them. They are my pride and glory at the moment. I get home everyday, put them on and prance around in our flat. I have worn them once here, but it’s so hot so I’m waiting to wear them when I’m back in Cape Town.

And speaking of which, a friend just informed me that they now DO stock them in a shop called ‘The Lot’ in Cape Town. Just my luck! Haha.

The beauties:

Here are other pairs of JC’s I tried on in the store (‘Villains’ in Siam Centre, Bangkok):

Plan Litas, nice for everyday wear
Spiked, leather Litas
The Foxy Wood (you can also get them spiked, surprise surprise)
The Donna Platforms
Have a good day gorgeous people!

Inslee Obsessed

Good morning!

The other day I discovered a website I have to share with you. I was looking at different fashion illustrations for my blog header and I came across a lot of beautiful, very a la mode fashion sketches by this girl called ‘Inslee’. Anyways, I tracked down her website and I have spent hours everyday on it checking out all her sketches. They are so addictively chic I keep on pressing the ‘older posts’ button. She has made quite a successful business out of these sketches and currently works and lives in New York City. I wanted a custom made one but 1,500 $ is not do-able right now however, the sketch I currently have is also by her, I tweaked it to double the brunette girl image, this was the original:

I will be happy spending many more hours of the year looking at more and more Inslee eye candy… Check out some of my favourites.
