A Rainy Day in Powder Blue

4
Today, I wore my favourite shade of blue – which also happens to be on trend this winter. Here I sport it in the form of a molten oversized coat, paired with a poodle embossed white knit, muted leather pants and boots. And, to top it off – a silver clutch – to give my usual shopper a well overdue break.
I’m wearing:
White knit- Mr Price
Coat- Forever New
Leather pants- Vintage
Boots- ZOOM Footwear
Clutch- Truworths
Sunglasses- Dior
After reading about Kanye and Kim’s wedding I was slightly shocked at the amount of money they spent on everything (eyes wide)… But then I guess things are all relative. But, wow- $1.7 million spent on music, $3 million spent on security, a crazy $20,4480 spent on the fireworks display?! Needless to say, I’m all for peace and love though so let me just say she did look like a princess and her wedding clearly was a fairytale extravaganza. Hmm, what do you think?

Lots of love,

The Old Zoo

0
Testing out a possible shoot location for ELLE Magazine… We found this hidden jewel of place near UCT. Apparently it used to be a zoo many years a go. Sure enough there were abandoned cages, cells and even a enormous pit (for the lions perhaps?). Graffiti covered walls, stone paths, weeping willows, flower shrubs, walls of ivy… There was so much beauty to be found and I couldn’t resist having a few photos taken.

This is what I wore to work and a sheer example of Cape Town’s bipolar weather, I was in a bikini days before.

I’m wearing:
Jersey knit- Topshop
Coat- Vintage
Jeans- Sissy Boy
Boots- ZOOM Footwear
Handbag- Michael Kors
Wintery weather also means you can change up your make up accordingly. Here, I’m wearing a deep plum lip shade by Palladio.

Office Style

2

About two weeks ago I was snapped at work for my first appearance in the famous ELLE office style post for elle.com! It was very exciting because I’ve always eagerly scrolled through the office styles posts without ever really imagining being in one. Here was my look to work that day:

I went for a feminine ‘spring’ look with floral shorties, a wide sleeved silk top and black pointed courts. I added a bright pink lip colour by Elizabeth Arden called  “Electric pink”.
PS. I am so sad to hear about the outcome of flight MH370… I can’t imagine how the families of those who were on the flight feel, especially after receiving the devastating news via text message. My heart goes out to them, RIP…

Superb Paris ~ Outfit of the Day

0
Ever since I was a little girl I’ve had this fascination of the land where the grass seemed greener, the sky bluer, the girls lovelier-  France. My love for all things French, mainly Parisian, resulted in a number of things for me. Largely studying the language and even majoring in it (I have a major in French Literature from UCT), a macaroon obsession (and anything illustrated with the Eiffel Tower) and when hearing the language (be it in a restaurant or on the sidewalk), switching off from anything I’m doing and listening in uttmost awe. Finally in 2010 I travelled to the place where, in my mind, all things magical happened- Paris.

Despite being told atrocities about my beloved city, for instance- “it’s gross and covered in litter” and “the French are SO rude”, I found it to be everything I had expected and more. This is one of the first instances in my life where I realised how close to reality stereotypes are. I literally saw ladies on bicycles with baguettes in their basket, and chicly dressed locals chatting oh so charmingly while walking their poodles and mimes playing the accordion on the ChampsÉlysées.

How does this relate to the outfit I wore today? Well, whilst browsing in Zara the other day (and lusting over all the gorgeous items I shouldn’t buy) I found this amazing white printed tee. My eyes immediately fell on the writing, “Superb Paris” it said. Basically, it was made me for me. Not just because, well, as I said I am all things Parisian obsessed, but because “white printed tee” was on the top of my “Don’t have and need” list. I am in love with it and felt simply peppered in splendour today. Silly? Yes. Delighted? Most definitely.
I’m wearing:
Tee- Zara
Black slacks- Country Road
Belt- Vintage
Heels- Mr Price
Bag- Michael Kors
Stacking rings- H&M

Bonne nuit!

ZOOM Footwear Challenge Day #3: Nude for Summer

12
It’s been a busy couple of past days! This is what I wore on Friday. I’ve been waiting to wear these heels with a little summer dress but because of the unpredictable Cape Town weather it’s been a little tricky. Haha. I decided to wear this pale pinky nude wrap playsuit (which actually just looks like a dress). I purchased it at a Thai market when I was living in Bangkok at the beginning of the year. It looks great with a tan, heels and gold skinny necklace and I thought this blue and white Zara clutch bag worked too. These heels have been very comfy by the way which is always a major plus for us girls.

I also need to tell you about the evening as I went to Fork restaurant on Long Street which was amazing! Their menu basically consists of tapas and when I say tapas I mean mouth watering and heaven made. There is definitely a reason why they are one of the top ten restaurants in Cape Town. I recommend the pork belly, fillet and sticky toffee pudding (all in tapas form of course). Also make sure you reserve in advance!

I’m wearing:
Nude playsuit- Bangkok market
Heels- ZOOM Footwear
Clutch bag- Zara
Necklace- Vintage
Starfish earrings- Call it Spring
Have a great day and don’t forget to enter in the ZOOM Footwear competition and stand the chance to win a gorgeous pair of heels for summer! Click here for details on how to enter!

La Maison Bleue

This is what I looked like yesterday! It was a bit of a sad (and coincidentally blue) day because I didn’t get into the next round of the Elle 2013 Style Reporter competition, however I shall keep my chin up and move on to the next challenge! I wore skinny black ripped jeans, a white holey knit and black points with blood red lips. I feel like this outfit exuded a hint of Gothic fused with a dash of sophistication.
I’m wearing:
Ripped black skinnies- Pull & Bear
White knit- Market in Florence
Black points- Zoom
Nude blazer-Bangkok
Studded black handbag- Woolworths
Gold necklaces- Woolworths and vintage

By the way have you been following the shows at Paris Fashion Week? Some of my favourites were Valentino, McQueen and Valentin Yudashkin’s collection!

Florence Day #1

0
Florence is definitely one of the most charming places I’ve been to. Everywhere you look there’s something to snap at (which as a blogger can slightly overwhelm you) so you can imagine why it’s taken me ages to sift through all the photos I took. We stayed near the Duomo in the centre of town which i recommend as it’s vibey, convenient and close to the action. The Duomo in contrast to the one in Milan isn’t as intricate in it’s architecture but instead in it’s painted detail. If you ever plan a trip to Florence make sure you go to a market- there are several different type and you can find such nifty bargain buys. There are different ones on different days so check online!
It’s to expensive to eat out for every meal (especially with the Euro to Rand sitting at nearly R14) so we would picnic it for lunch usually!

Outfit #1:
White mullet dress- Zara
Sandals- Fashion Express
Chain bag- Vintage
Sunglasses- Market in Bangkok

Outfit #2:
Blue ombre op- Tally Weijl
Black skirt- H&M
Espadrilles- Aldo
