Oxblood Leather

0
I’m loving textures at the moment, especially leather (or “pleather”). Sometimes pleather looks cheap but, in the past, I’ve purchased several items that don’t scream shiny and fake and that are great cheaper alternatives.

When it comes to leather I’m usually a neutral colours kind of girl however lately I’ve acquired a new favourite- oxblood. This deep red and near-burgundy shade is rich, somewhat sensual and makes me think of a large glass of pinotage. I’ve started seeing it make it’s way into our local retailers windows and here I wear a skirt I bought from Mr Price.
This is how I wore it to work:
I’m wearing:
Oxblood leather mini- Mr Price
Sheer monochrome shirt- Sissy Boy
Hand bag- Colette by Colette Hayman
Watch- Marc Jacobs
Sneakers- Nike
A little catwalk inspiration:
What do you think of this new shade?

The Old Zoo

0
Testing out a possible shoot location for ELLE Magazine… We found this hidden jewel of place near UCT. Apparently it used to be a zoo many years a go. Sure enough there were abandoned cages, cells and even a enormous pit (for the lions perhaps?). Graffiti covered walls, stone paths, weeping willows, flower shrubs, walls of ivy… There was so much beauty to be found and I couldn’t resist having a few photos taken.

This is what I wore to work and a sheer example of Cape Town’s bipolar weather, I was in a bikini days before.

I’m wearing:
Jersey knit- Topshop
Coat- Vintage
Jeans- Sissy Boy
Boots- ZOOM Footwear
Handbag- Michael Kors
Wintery weather also means you can change up your make up accordingly. Here, I’m wearing a deep plum lip shade by Palladio.

Festival Chic VS. Chipmunk Chic

0
Hi, hey, hello
Greetings from my bed- I had my wisdom teeth removed on Monday as they had been giving me pain (do NOT ever have yours done under local, it’s traumatic literally). I’ve been in a lot of pain (can’t even smile cause it hurts) and look like a chipmunk on my left side (I had 3 taken out on the left and 1 on the right). My best friends for the past 2 days have been Myprodols, liquids and ice packs. But at least I get to eat a lot of custard and soup, yum.

This is an outfit I wore to work the other day and I call it my “Festival Chic” outfit because my boss said I look festival-ready  (i.e. music festival/ Coachella vibes).
I’m wearing:
Fringe top- Zara
Black skinnies- Sissy Boy
Ankle boots- Zara
Hat- Cotton On
Bag- Bangkok Market
Sunnies- Prada (à la #ELLEfashioncloset)
These are super cool retro sunnies we got sent by Safilo (can’t remember what brand they are).

I indulged in this huge bacon and cheese burger for lunch that day from Knead using The Entertainer.

Have a splendid day and embrace those solids (e.g. All the things I can’t eat yet am still dreaming about) for me, please.

I’ll Leaf Your Cherry

Today was a very busy day as a fashion intern. We are shooting an editorial on Wednesday and so we were all running around the new (and delivery box infested) Elle headquarters, town, Gardens, Canal Walk, you name it! When sourcing in town I fell in love with a shop called ‘Afraid of Mice’. It’s on Long Street in Cape Town and stocks designer vintage garments. Magical, truly. I fell in love with a nude Burberry trench coat that was going for R2500, Calvin Klein strap over heels in snakeskin print leather and (several) dresses. Their prices start from about R250 and onwards. And in my opinion reasonable ones for what you get. Definitely a must see (and shop)! Don’t let the Burberry trench price scare you because it’s all relative.

I’m wearing:
Silk red top- Zara
Jeans- Sissy Boy
Floral wedges- Woolworths
Handbag- Michael Kors
Buenas noches sunbeams.

ZOOM Footwear Challenge DAY #1: Chanel Inspired

22
It was a very rainy and grey day for the first day of the ZOOM Footwear Challenge. Boo! Instead of the flowy dress I wanted to wear I had to swap my outfit to a navy silk vest with zip pocket, skinny jeans, a gorgeous Chanel inspired white tweed jacket with gold button detail and nude chain hand bag. I think the shoes looked great paired with this simple yet chic outfit. I also accessorised with a gold chain necklace, gold earrings and a pearl ring I got for my 21st birthday passed down from my mom! For obvious reasons I call this my “Chanel” outfit.

I’m wearing:
Nude heels- ZOOM Footwear
Skinny jeans- Sissy Boy
Navy vest- Tally Weijl
White tweed jacket- Zara
Gold necklace- Woolworths
Tonight I am attending the Alessia Boutique Summer Launch and let me tell you about the dress I am wearing… Let’s just say it costs more than anything I have worn and I think I know the perfect shoes for it…. 😉 Photos to follow.

PS. What did you think of my “Chanel Inspired” outfit?

From Day to Night: The Printed Tee

2
My most latest favourite clothing essential is definitely- the  legendary printed tee . I bought this grey one with a print of what looks like the illuminati symbol at Zara for R270. The great thing about it is you can easily dress it up, or down, acting as a wardrobe two-timer

I decided to transform it from a trendy, casual day outfit to a more sultry ‘night out’ look.  TIP: Always keep your eye open for pieces that are versatile like the printed tee. This is also a great spring wardrobe essential as you can opt to layer it or rock it bare armed.
Look #1:
For my day outfit I went for a layered casual look and wore: a chambray shirt, a khaki green grey leather jacket, grey beanie, skinny jeans and black sneaker wedges. I accessorised with my gold Casio watch, gold skinny rings, my gold studded black drawstring bag and colour reflector sunglasses.
I’m wearing:
Chambray shirt- Mr Price
Jeans- Sissy Boy
Sneaker wedges- Promod
Hand bag- Platinum Bangkok
Skinny rings- H&M
Beanie- River Island (via Asos)
Leather jacket- Alcott

Look #2:
For my ‘night out’ look I fancied it up with a sleek black leather jacket, black pointed heels and a rubber black chain sling bag. I also added a chunky gold statement necklace to add to a more sexy and smarter look. My make up changed to darker eyes and a more bronzed face.
I’m wearing:
Black jacket- H&M
Jeans- Sissy Boy
Pointed heels- Zoom
Chain bag- Alcott
Gold statement necklace- H&M

Verdict?  I loved wearing my printed tee for both day and night looks. There is something so sexy about a girl in a tee and jeans (ask any guy) and the bonus? -It’s so comfy and easy to wear

PS. Exciting news: I have officially joined the Instagram world! Find me: CLEOPATRAMARCO.

Ladies who Lunch

0
There is nothing better than girlie chatter, a Kir Royale and some delicious (half price, score!) sushi on a sunny day. These are photos taken yesterday at Beluga restaurant in Green Point. I had my usual Philadelphia rolls (smoked samon cali rolls with cream cheese) which are out of this world tasty, if you haven’t tried them do it.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Caviar groups famous half price sushi, dim sum and cocktail special:
Sevruga’s special is from 12-6pm everyday (Sundays are 2-6) and Beluga’s is from 12-7pm (Sundays are all day)!

After stuffing out faces our dear friend Quentin brought us complimentary desserts which would have blown any chocolate lover’s mind!
Namely:
< 1. Lindt white chocolate beignets, with hot butterscotch sauce and vanilla bean ice cream.
2. The chocolate fondant that explodes oozing chocolate as if it were an erupting volcano. >
‘More than a Tuna Crunch’- A must try for any Tuna Crunch fan!
My Philly Rolls!
Dessert at it’s best. Forget about fruity/ vanilla-y/ nutty desserts… A dessert needs CHOCOLATE!
Casual day outfit:
Navy tow with chambray detail- Tally Weijl
White skinnies- Sissy Boy
White espadrilles- Aldo
Tan shopper- Caprisa
Sunglasses- Bangkok Platinum
Gold rings- H&M
Small cross earrings- H&M
By the way I am entering the ELLE and BlackBerry 2013 Style Reporter nation-wide competition! It is a street style and trend spotting competition and for the first post you have to capture street style “on the move”. I have slowly started approaching people and taking their photo and boy let me tell you, you don’t realise it at first but it takes balls! It’s great though because I have met some awesome people and it’s a perfect confidence booster! Never be afraid to challenge yourself.

The competition’s deadline is in 2 weeks… I think I am going to start posting photos on The Cleopatra Facebook page and see which photos spur the most attention as you’re only allowed to enter 5 photos…

Keep it real.
