Cocooned Up

Here’s what I wore yesterday. I’ve been keeping warm in my Lazuli cocoon coat which is the cosiest thing I own. I love it’s modern and clean shape and it also has two side pockets (my favourite detail as my hands are always cold). I wore a chambray shirt, black jeans and grey boots. Lately, I have been taking extra notice of cake and coffee specials in Cape Town – because everyone knows winter requires a certain amount of carbs 😉 If you would like to view the specials I find, follow me on Instagram under @cleopatramarco.

A Rainy Day in Powder Blue

Today, I wore my favourite shade of blue – which also happens to be on trend this winter. Here I sport it in the form of a molten oversized coat, paired with a poodle embossed white knit, muted leather pants and boots. And, to top it off – a silver clutch – to give my usual shopper a well overdue break.

White knit- Mr Price
Coat- Forever New
Leather pants- Vintage
Boots- ZOOM Footwear
Clutch- Truworths
Sunglasses- Dior
After reading about Kanye and Kim’s wedding I was slightly shocked at the amount of money they spent on everything (eyes wide)… But then I guess things are all relative. But, wow- $1.7 million spent on music, $3 million spent on security, a crazy $20,4480 spent on the fireworks display?! Needless to say, I’m all for peace and love though so let me just say she did look like a princess and her wedding clearly was a fairytale extravaganza. Hmm, what do you think?

Lots of love,

Oxblood Leather

I’m loving textures at the moment, especially leather (or “pleather”). Sometimes pleather looks cheap but, in the past, I’ve purchased several items that don’t scream shiny and fake and that are great cheaper alternatives.

When it comes to leather I’m usually a neutral colours kind of girl however lately I’ve acquired a new favourite- oxblood. This deep red and near-burgundy shade is rich, somewhat sensual and makes me think of a large glass of pinotage. I’ve started seeing it make it’s way into our local retailers windows and here I wear a skirt I bought from Mr Price.
This is how I wore it to work:

With my Nikes on…

I’ve been lusting over Nike Air Max for ages now… Googling them, talking about them and definitely dreaming about them. The all-white Hyperfuse being my recent favourite.

The other day was like Christmas for me –  but better. My boyfriend surprised me with a beautiful pair of these exact babies. I was so thrilled I wore them straight for a week. Haha. I’m so in love with them, the way they look and importantly, the way they feel. They are super comfortable and have a small platform which is great seen as I’m 1.61m.

Here’s how I wore them to work on Thursday.

*Funny story, I was walking around Zara at the V&A Waterfront a few days later and I noticed several pairs of eyes staring lustfully at my new sneakers of perfection. I felt super proud and even mentioned to my boyfriend how everyone can’t help but gape at them- because they’re so super-cool of course… Ten minutes later I noticed doggy-doo seeping out from underneath my left sneaker. Fabulous, haha.

Have a lovely night everyone!

Superb Paris ~ Outfit of the Day

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve had this fascination of the land where the grass seemed greener, the sky bluer, the girls lovelier-  France. My love for all things French, mainly Parisian, resulted in a number of things for me. Largely studying the language and even majoring in it (I have a major in French Literature from UCT), a macaroon obsession (and anything illustrated with the Eiffel Tower) and when hearing the language (be it in a restaurant or on the sidewalk), switching off from anything I’m doing and listening in uttmost awe. Finally in 2010 I travelled to the place where, in my mind, all things magical happened- Paris.

Despite being told atrocities about my beloved city, for instance- “it’s gross and covered in litter” and “the French are SO rude”, I found it to be everything I had expected and more. This is one of the first instances in my life where I realised how close to reality stereotypes are. I literally saw ladies on bicycles with baguettes in their basket, and chicly dressed locals chatting oh so charmingly while walking their poodles and mimes playing the accordion on the ChampsÉlysées.

How does this relate to the outfit I wore today? Well, whilst browsing in Zara the other day (and lusting over all the gorgeous items I shouldn’t buy) I found this amazing white printed tee. My eyes immediately fell on the writing, “Superb Paris” it said. Basically, it was made me for me. Not just because, well, as I said I am all things Parisian obsessed, but because “white printed tee” was on the top of my “Don’t have and need” list. I am in love with it and felt simply peppered in splendour today. Silly? Yes. Delighted? Most definitely.
I’m wearing:

Bonne nuit!

Green Tuesdays with love

Here’s what I wore to work today! I started off the day having breakfast at The Grand Cafe in Camps Bay for a beauty launch I went to, representing Sarah Hoberman, the beauty editor of Elle Magazine of course. It was for the Autumn Winter launch for LCN Cosmetics, a German make up, nail and skin care label. You can purchase their products at select beauty salons and on their newly launched Facebook shop.
We were treated to a lovely breakfast, of course I went for the egg and bacon option (I always have time for bacon) followed by a presentation on all their new products. We also got to smell, see and touch the products which is a must for beauty editors/ bloggers who have to review products.
Back at work I had a few things to do and this evening my best friend came over and we had a chilled girlie evening which is always a great way to unwind! This meant that wine, phad thai and gossip were on the cards.

I’m wearing:
Acid green knit- Zara
Leather pants- Bershka
Black points- ZOOM Footwear
White t-shirt- Mr Price
Bag- Caprisa
Sunglasses- Dior
Chain necklace- Forever 21 (coming to SA soon yay!)
“Whatever” beanie- Mr Price (in stores soon)

With my very cute Henry Holland cellphone cover (great to look at  but did not prevent my phone screen from completely smashing all over the other day, sigh).

Have a lovely evening and sweet dreams.

Summer Catchup

So it’s been a crazy past few weeks but I haven’t stopped blogging… I’ve just had a little break from it as I’ve had a lot going on. Firstly, I have started a fashion internship at ELLE Magazine which I am so happy about as it’s been a goal for a while now (not to mention my favourite magazine). I also received an amazing SLR camera which I am dying to use on some new blog posts so keep on reading. AND, it’s Christmas season, my favourite time of the year!

There is bad news too unfortunately…  My little puppy Princess Jasmine died a few days ago which I have been heart broken about as she was the most lovable creature I have ever met… May you rest in peace my little pumpkin. She was truly a special little fluffy dog.

Here are a few photos from in the midst of a Cape Town summer…

I’m wearing:
Little denim shirt dress- Legit
Sandals- Forever 21
Tan handbag- Caprisa
Sunglasses- Mr Price
We all know that our dear Madiba passed away just over a week ago. He was a extremely powerful man who moved the nation and who was willing to die for his cause… One who I have a great amount of respect for. Mandela had uttered many words of wisdom in his lifetime. My favourite is: “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”

Birthday Drinks and Tapas at HQ

These past two weeks have been so crazy! I was in Durban for a week and I got back last Thursday evening. That same evening I rushed to watch my little brothers Christmas school play (and of course he was a champ as usual!) and from there I rushed to HQ on Shortmarket street to celebrate my 22nd birthday with a few friends over drinks and tapas. It was a fun night well spent. Every Thursday the tapas or ‘bar snacks’ are half price at HQ. The lamb sliders and mini sirloin pieces are a must!
I wore a two piece black number and chunky suede heels with ankle straps. I got these amazing but extremely hard to walk in heels at the Topshop sale last month for a quarter of their original price, score!
Crop black top with cool neck design- Bangkok Market
Black skater skirt- Mr Price
Heels- Topshop
